How to Program Ford Key Fobs

If you’ve recently gotten replacement car keys, you may be wondering how to program a Ford key fob. The experts at Ford of Latham are here to help! New Ford vehicles come with a remote key fob, so drivers can more easily access their cars. If your vehicle is equipped with keyless entry, programming a new key fob for that system should be simple. Read on to learn more about Ford key fob programming!


Ford Key Fob Programming Guide

  1. First, close all of the car doors, then open the driver-side door. Press UNLOCK on the driver-side door.
  2. Then, turn the ignition from OFF to RUN eight times. Make sure you do this within 10 seconds, making sure the eight time lands on RUN. After you’ve successfully entered programming mode, the door locks will lock and unlock. (Note: Turn the key faster if the doors don’t cycle. If it still won’t work properly, your car may not having keyless entry, so be sure to check your owner’s manual ahead of time.)
  3. Next, press any button on the Ford key fob you with to program. Do this within eight seconds. When the keyless entry is ready to use, the door locks will cycle again.
  4. If you have a second remote key fob, press any button on the remote within eight seconds to activate the door lock cycle. Repeat this step for any more key fobs you want to program.
  5. Finally, turn the ignition to OFF. The locks will again cycle to confirm programming is finished.

How to Turn Off Ford MyKey

There are a lot of reasons a driver may want to disable a programmed Ford key. For example, you may want to sell your car, because you have no more need for your key fob. It’s an easy process to complete. First and foremost, start your car, and then follow the instructions below to clear your programmed keys’ settings, so they revert back to “admin key.”

  • After you’ve started your car, give the computer and screen a second to turn on.
  • Press the left arrow button on your steering wheel-mounted controls to navigate to the main menu.
  • Press “Settings” after selecting “OK.”
  • Once you’re in the “Settings” section, scroll until you find the “MyKey” option, then select “OK.”
  • Under “MyKey,” locate “Clear MyKey.”
  • After you’ve selected “Clear MyKey,” press and hold “OK” until you’re taken to the “All MyKeys Cleared” message.
  • You should be good to go!
